Libya: media blackouts, lies, and videotape

The “limited kinetic action” in Libya has been one of the most misrepresented, selectively covered, and tragic imperialistic NATO adventures in recent history. We are presented a picture of a madman, frothing at the mouth, slaughtering civilians whenever possible. We are shown a Libya that is united against Qaddafi, with a population that wants NATO to save them and help depose the evil Qaddafi. But is this true?

In fact, this is only a very small part of a large, complex picture. However, the Western media refuses to show their audience the entire reality while they are in fact there in Libya, able to fully appreciate the events. This just goes to show the strict gatekeeper aspect of Western mainstream media in which only certain things get covered and a very select few become major stories.

So what are we not being shown by our Western media? How about one million Libyans taking the streets of Tripoli in support of Qaddafi for starters? One would think that such a massive demonstration in the nation’s capitol would garner at least a little bit of the mainstream media’s attention. However this seems to miss the headlines completely.

A summary of American and international press coverage of the war in Libya compiled by the Tripoli Post one can see a bit of an inaccurate picture forming. To call it biased, selective, and cherry-picked is a bit of an understatement.

In reality the situation in Libya is much different than what we have been led to believe. Much like most of the revolutions and movements of history, it is usually not as simple as the entire populace uniting together under one ideal to depose the oppressive regime. If this were the case, revolutions wouldn’t be nearly as bloody as they have been throughout history, nor would civil wars ever have occurred. Clearly Libya is no different and there are people on both sides who are willing to fight and die for their beliefs.

The solution to this type of conflict is not to indiscriminately bomb civilians, revolutionaries, and compounds in which Qaddafi was thought to reside (which resulted in the murder of his son and three grandchildren). When the rebels are allied with al Qaeda, one can safely say that the government put in place will be no better than Qaddafi and will likely be much worse. They will also assuredly rape the nation of Libya of her natural resources, as well as the people. The rebels have already begun this process by selling off oil to the West.

While an astute consumer of news can easily assimilate a cogent and accurate picture of the situation in Libya, the Western media prefers to tell people how to analyze the news and what news to care about. Instead of being presented every single news story, each given equal importance, and then being told to assimilate and analyze the data, Americans are told to listen to a talking head who knows better than them what is going on. This is incredibly dangerous and is painfully apparent in much of peoples’ total ignorance or apathy when it comes to Libya or anything else that isn’t on their front door.

It is very inconvenient, not to mention inconsistent, for the Western media to suddenly change their tune and say, “Oh, we actually meant that tons of people were pro-Qaddafi, you must have misunderstood us.” Regardless of the mainstream media’s deliberate misrepresentation, the cracks in the NATO operation are clear, especially given that Italy just backed out of the imperialistic escapade and blocked their bases from being used to attack Libya any longer.

The above linked article about Italy refusing to be party to the murder of civilians any longer is clearly biased coming from Mathaba News Agency and written by a “director member of the International Scientific Committee of the World Centre for the Studies and Researches on the Green Book and the Third Universal Theory, an academic institution for the study of Mu’ammar al-Qadhafi’s thought.”

That being said, there was one passage which was surprisingly accurate,

“[...]not only is the US bankrupt and dependent upon Europeans to finance the purchase of its missiles and equipment, but also the President would legally already be liable for prison, if a constitutional court would enforce American laws: as he has been waging an illegal war without Congress.”

So how long are the American people going to sit silently while we are signed on to infinite amounts of debt? This seems to be the ultimate goal of these imperialistic “humanitarian” missions: creating huge amounts of revenue and debt slaves right along with it while stealing as much money from the people of the world as humanly possible. Killing some people in the process doesn’t hurt their cause either.

Here’s a taste of the reality we are not being presented by the controlled corporate Western media:

One million people demonstrating in a single city in a country of six million people is a quite impressive show of support for civilians that are being slaughtered by the regime they are marching in support of. Whenever the Western media acknowledges the pro-Qaddafi demonstrations they characterize it as a bunch of people either paid to be there or being intimidated and forced to act as if they are supporting the cause.

Why is it so hard for our “fair and balanced” media to even acknowledge that there are people who still support this man? Why are we being fed such a clearly manufactured and carefully presented picture of the political situation in Libya? Why are there no attempts to peacefully talk with Qaddafi and engage in a politico-diplomatic process even when he clearly said he is interested?

If you take a moment and research all of the facts and reports coming out of Libya, you just might walk away with a drastically different impression than the one the Western mainstream media is attempting to leave you with.

I agree with the thrust of this article but am a bit confused by the apparent claim that any time oil is sold by one nation to another, that constitutes the “rape” of the nation doing the selling. Could you explain?

If I made that claim, it is unintended. It is “rape” of the nation when a force funded and run by outside interests come in and sell off the nation’s oil to foreign nations without the people’s consent. It wouldn’t be rape if they were leading the country and they sold the oil and used it to rebuild infrastructure or for some other legitimate purpose.

Sorry if that was unclear, nations selling oil to other nations is definitely not rape!

Clearly the Attempted removal of Gadaffi from power is because he knows what he is doing, not because he does not.Consider this, Cameron, Sarkozy, and that guy in the white house, were just coming out of diapers , when Gadaffi took the rains of power in Libya, he has seen 11 American administrations. If you compare every number across the board, be it literacy rates, debt levels, unemployment, wealth of it,s citizen,s access to health care and all medical needs, citizen financial kickbacks from development, and sale of Libya,s resources, crime rates, incarceration rates, it goes on, and on.Libya, and it,s leadership, makes the USA, Britain, France, look like broken down outhouses, ruled by tyrants, and despots.Only if they completely controlled the release of information, all but eliminating the truth of the real Libya, and the real Gadaffi, and where the real support lies, could they pull this theft and slaughter off. This Libyan conflict has truly exposed the mainstream press for the controlled criminally complicit farce it really is.It also defines the intellect of the supporters of war in Libya, by the death of civilians, women and children, and the support of the cold blooded murder of a leader of a sovereign nation, and a very successful one at that .Before the greedy oil men , bankers, and corrupt politicians trained their greedy black heart eyes on it, Libya was a thriving propering healthy peaceful nation.Ever since being wrongly accused of a Plane bombing, suffering crippling sanctions because of it, and then demanding reparations, and justice.Libya has long been a source of unlimited funds, for many counties, Leaders like Sarkozy would not even be in power, if it were not for Gadaffi loaning him the money to do it, money he now does not want to pay back, and who by the way, was the first aggressor towards Libya, and Gadaffi?.
