U.S. officials confirm Israeli Mossad trained assassins of Iranian nuclear scientists
By End the Lie
I have been writing about the covert Israeli assault on Iran for months now, but finally the establishment media seems to be playing catch up, something which I find incredibly interesting, unexpected and curious.
I would expect the mainstream media to continue the farcical denial of any covert Western action in Iran until it was absolutely impossible for them to do so, but perhaps we have already reached that point at which they can no longer continue to deny reality while maintaining any semblance of legitimacy.
While Iran has previously claimed to have evidence that Israel and the United States had been behind the attacks against Iranian nuclear scientists and military figures associated with Iran’s missile research and the alleged Iranian nuclear program, the Western media has supported the denial of these links
The most recent attack – which displayed all of the hallmarks of previous assassinations linked to Israel and the United States – which killed nuclear scientist Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, brought these issues back to the fore once again.
The second I began researching the Ahmadi Roshan assassination I began to see hints indicating that it was in fact an Israeli operation.
Less than two weeks later, another attack, this time on Iranian military personnel, was committed once again by individuals on a motorcycle.
Soon after the killing of 32-year-old Ahmadi Roshan, who was reportedly a department supervisor at the Natanz uranium enrichment facility, the United States denied being involved in the killing while Israel refused to comment on the matter.
Soon after that assassination, Mark Perry of Foreign Policy revealed that American intelligence memos detailed how the Israeli Mossad was recruiting operatives from the terrorist group Jundallah while pretending to be Americans.
This newest revelation raises the Israeli support of terrorism to new heights, something which I figured the Western media would be quick to marginalize. Surprisingly, this does not seem to be the case, which threw me for a bit of a loop.
Mark Perry’s Foreign Policy article reported that the Mossad operation was active in 2007 and 2008, although I doubt that they would cease such an operation if it had any degree of success.
After Perry’s article was released – and unsurprisingly ignored in many sectors of the media – the British Sunday Times reported that agents linked to Israeli intelligence were actually behind Ahmadi Roshan’s assassination.
But the newest information from NBC News is by far the most damning yet in terms of Israel’s involvement with terrorism.
NBC News admits that the statements from U.S. officials concerning Mossad’s training, financing and arming of Iranian dissident groups actually confirm “charges leveled by Iran’s leaders.” Previously the Western media usually dismissed any and all allegations coming from Iranian figures.
Recently I reported on Moshe Ya’alon, Israel’s Vice Prime Minister, and his statements which seemed to lend support to the relationship between Israel and terrorist groups.
The statements made by U.S. officials to NBC News make it quite clear that this is exactly what Ya’alon was hinting at.
The NBC News report focused on Israeli support of the People’s Mujahedin of Iran, also known as Mujahedin-e-Khalq, or the MEK. The People’s Mujahedin of Iran also goes by MKO and PMI.
This organization has long been listed as a terrorist organization in the United States as they have been associated with several deadly terrorist incidents over a period of decades.
The anonymous U.S. officials who spoke to NBC News said that the Obama administration is aware of the campaign which has resulted in five murders of nuclear scientists since 2007 – and likely a major missile research and development facility – while not having any direct involvement in the program.
Speaking of the relationship between the MEK and Israel, Mohammad Javad Larijani, a senior aide to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said, “The relation is very intricate and close. They (Israelis) are paying … the Mujahedin. Some of their (MEK) agents … (are) providing Israel with information. And they recruit and also manage logistical support.”
Even more importantly, Larijani said that the Mossad is actually training MEK operatives within Israel on how to use motorcycles and the small explosives which have become the trademark of these attacks.
Larijani said that in one case the Mossad actually constructed a replica of an Iranian nuclear scientist’s home so the MEK operatives could train more accurately and become familiar with the layout of the building prior to the operation.
He said that most of the information possessed by Iran on the links between Israeli intelligence and the MEK comes from the interrogation of an assassination who was caught attempting to carry out an attack in late 2010.
Larijani states that the Israeli rationale for supporting the MEK is quite simple, mostly based on the fact that Israel does not have any direct access to Iranian society.
“Israel does not have direct access to our society. Mujahedin, being Iranian and being part of Iranian society, they have … a good number of … places to get into the touch with people. So I think they are working hand-to-hand very close. And we do have very concrete documents,” Larijani, who was educated in the United States, said.
The anonymous American officials confirmed that the MEK participated in all of the assassinations to NBC News, with one individual identified as a senior official saying, “All your inclinations are correct.”
All of the officials denied any American involvement in the operations, although I find that highly unlikely. It very well might be the case that the United States chose to have these officials speak anonymously in an attempt to pass off some of the blame for the assassinations, although that is pure speculation and given the historically close relationship between Israel and the U.S. I find it unlikely.
Unsurprisingly, the Israeli Foreign Ministry refused to comment on the matter, saying, “As long as we can’t see all the evidence being claimed by NBC, the Foreign Ministry won’t react to every gossip and report being published worldwide.”
Of course by “all the evidence being claimed by NBC” they mean the names and exact statements of the anonymous sources, something which is an absurd thing to ask from any journalistic organization.
Also unsurprisingly, the MEK called all of the allegations “absolutely false” in a statement published online.
“There has never been and there is no MEK member in Israel, period,” Ali Safavi, a representative of the MEK, said. “The MEK has categorically denied any involvement. The idea that Israel is training MEK members on its soil borders on perversity. It is absolutely and completely false.”
Yet this is highly doubtful, even in the eyes of individuals like Dr. Uzi Rabi, the director of the Dayan Center at Tel Aviv University.
He said that the “accidents” which have afflicted several key Iranian sites could all be a part of a “psychological warfare” operation being conducted against Iran.
Speaking of MEK involvement in the attacks, Dr. Uzi said, “It seems logical. It makes sense, and it’s been done before.”
While the MEK is still listed as a terrorist organization in the United States, their lobbying efforts have resulted in the removal of the group from lists in the United Kingdom and the European Union, despite the long history of well documented terrorist activity.
There is also a concerted effort in the United States to get the MEK removed with U.S. politicians attempting to get the American government to protect the 3,400 MEK operatives and their families located at Camp Ashraf about 35 miles north of Baghdad, Iraq.
The United Nations brokered an agreement permitting the MEK members’ departure and resettlement in unnamed democratic countries, something which is hardly surprising given their involvement with covert operations in Iran.
I find it patently absurd that Israel and the United States continually accuse Iran of supporting terrorism while the evidence continues to mount suggesting that Israel and the United States have been directly involved with terrorist activity in the region.
The hypocrisy is almost painfully blatant and the fact that the Western establishment media is even covering it now is somewhat astounding.
This just leaves me wondering if the United States – which constantly calls upon the tired “War on Terror” excuse to justify their operations abroad and at home – will do anything in response to this.
Will the U.S. seek out those officials who spoke to NBC in order to confirm their claims and then move against Israel for their terrorist activity?
If it was any other nation, I’d say probably but since we’re talking about Israel here I believe the chances are slim to none.
If the world needed a single case to point to in order to exemplify the massively hypocritical approach to terrorism employed by the United States and Israel, this is it.
