great coverage as always from christina. one thing i’d like to share about spiderwort though… when i first came across the fact that spiderwort can “detect” radiation, and changes color i was confused, as there are pink and purple varieties. it is not the petals that change color, but the stamens (the thin stalk holding the reproductive ovums and pollen) that turns pink when ionizing radiation is in the environment. this confusion was cleared up and verified to me by a well respected botanist wild food enthuesist (yes spiderwort is edible!) at eattheweeds.com
just thought i’d share so people aren’t geeking when they see the pink varieties. look closely at those tiny stalks for the telltale pink…
although my spiderwort in my garden hasn’t turned pink yet, i am seeing many mutations of leaf structure… more stiking than huge leaves is the interuption of nature perfect symmetry in a clover leaf etc.
